Background of the State Ministry of Health

S M O H – Abyei established in 2008 as the ministry of services. From 2015 it was changed to ministry of health youth, Gender, and social welfare. Then from August 2023 the social welfare had been a stand-alone ministry, thus make as a standalone Ministry of Health. The ministry has been struggling under the limited resources to deliver services to the community. Under funding is the major challenge.

Partners and international NGOS supporting health are save the children (SCI), GOAL, (IOM), (UNH) as three-month RRF and MSF in kind of secondary level support.

Mission

To improve the health status of the population and provide quality health care to all the people in Abyei.

Goals

A strengthening health services and infrastructure.
We will share in the minimization of maternal and infant mortality all over Abyei area.

Objectives

To increase the utilization and quality of health services.
To scale up health promotion and protection interventions so as to empower communities take charge of their health.
To strengthen the functions of institutional leadership and governance structures namely:

State Ministry of Health directors and officers.
