Earlier today, on 11 August 2025, Hon. Aluel Minyeil Rou, Minister of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare of the Abyei Special Administrative Area, convened a significant meeting in her office with representatives from the police, specifically those affiliated with UNISFA, alongside engaging various other teams dedicated to community safety and welfare.

‎The focus of the meeting was to address critical issues surrounding gender-based violence (GBV) and the treatment of detainees in police facilities.

‎During the meeting, Honorable Aluel Minyeil Rou , emphasized the urgent need to improve the management of GBV cases, underlining the societal impact of these issues on individuals and communities. This call to action seeks not only to support survivors but also to foster a community that can effectively handle such challenging circumstances.

‎However, the minister also brought attention to the conditions faced by detainees, advocating for humane treatment and improvements in detention facilities. By highlighting these issues, the ministry aims to foster a more compassionate approach to policing and detention.

‎A key aspect of the meeting was the appeal for external support to enhance GBV case management and to empower those involved in these initiatives. The goal is to create a supportive environment where both survivors and caseworkers can thrive, enabling them to navigate the complexities of GBV cases with resilience and effectiveness.

‎The commitment from police representatives and community safety teams to collaborate with the Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare indicates a promising step towards collective action, aiming to implement initiatives that prioritize the welfare and rights of vulnerable populations in the area.
