Inauguration of the Akechnial Bridge by Representative of the Chief Administrator:
Abyei-Akechnial – 27 October 2025:
Earlier today, the Honorable Koul Agany Dau, Minister of Local Governments and Law Enforcement, acting on behalf of His Excellency Justice Charles Abyei Jok, Chief Administrator of the Abyei Special Administrative Area, presided over the ceremonial opening of the Akechnial Bridge, following an intensive five-day maintenance operation. The inauguration was also graced by the presence of Colonel Alex Sandro Limon D’Lima, representative of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and Force Commander.
At the outset of the celebratory proceedings, Hon. Kon Mayiet Matiok, Minister of Physical Infrastructure, Public Utilities, and Communication, conveyed his gratitude to both the administration and UNISFA, particularly acknowledging the contributions of the Vietnamese forces for their substantial endeavors in restoring the bridge, thereby allowing it to once again serve the area and its populace.
On his part ,Colonel Alex Sandro, UNISFA representative and mission commander, expressed pride in the services rendered to the area and its citizens, commending the productive collaboration with the administration, which facilitated the provision of essential resources that ensured the project’s efficient completion.
In conclusion, Hon. Koul Agany Dau, Minister of Local Governments and Law Enforcement, who represented the Chief Administrator on this significant occasion, expressed heartfelt thanks to all attendees at this momentous event. He acknowledged the indispensable efforts of the UNISFA mission in Abyei, particularly the Vietnamese Engineering Forces Battalion, while advocating for the enhancement of collaborative initiatives between the administration and these entities in various sectors to better serve the people of the Abyei area.
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, local leaders of the Akechnial area, as well as local youth and women.
In attendance were also Hon. Yohana Akol Ngor, Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sport; Hon. Nyang Doldol Nyang, Commissioner of Alal County; and Hon. Martin Deng Kuol Machar, Commissioner of the Land Commission; and other government officials.
