ACTING CHIEF ADMINISTRATOR LEADS THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 11TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NGOK DINKA COMMUNITY REFERENDUM

ABYEI– 31st October, 2024 – – The Acting Chief Administrator and Deputy Hon. Deng Arop Mading, led on Thursday members of the public who gathered to commemorate the 11th Anniversary of the Abyei Community Referendum that was held in 2013.

Senior officials of the Administration including Hon. Makuei Angok Gach, Acting Speaker of Abyei Legislative Council, Ministers, Commissioners, Chiefs, Youth and Women attended the commemoration event at the SPLM Square in Abyei Town.

In his keynote address, the Acting Chief Administrator and Deputy Hon. Deng Arop Mading, assured the Public of the Abyei government unwavering committment towards ensuring the aspirations of the people of Abyei and quest for the official recognition of the outcomes of the 2013 Referendum results are fulfilled.

In addition, the Acting Chief Administrator, echoed the government call to stand against any choice that undermines the aspirations of the people of Abyei as today’s commemoration of the 11th Anniversary remains a clear testament of the resilience and quest of the people of Abyei to be fully recognized as part the Republic of South Sudan.

In conclusion, Hon. Deng Arop Mading, the Acting Chief Administrator and Deputy called on the general public to renew their committment to peace, unity and resilience and remain hopeful that the true cause will be fullfilled.

On his part, Hon. Makuei Angok Gach, Acting Speaker of Abyei legislative Council, applauded the fallen heroes for the role played until the realization of the full independence of the Republic of South Sudan as well as the role of the Youth in defending the territorial integrity of the Area, he underscored the need to unite behind the leadership of the government of Abyei Special Administrative Area as it works to ensure the people’s aspirations are realized despite some existing challenges.

In a separate statement, Hon. Bulis Koch Aguar, the Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, informed the press that the government of Abyei Special Administrative Area received on Thursday 31st October, 2024, memorandum from the Abyei Civil Society Organizations that calls on the National government to officially recognize the outcomes of the 2013 Community Referendum results.

The Minister further informed the media that the memorandum received will be shared with the National government for Action.
