Abyei Special Administrative Area

Chief Administrator meets the National Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, discusses a range of issues concerning the Abyei’ Area Legal Administration Affairs.

JUBA– On Wednesday, 30th October 2024, H.E. Amb. Dr. Chol Deng Alak, the Chief Administrator met with Hon. Justice. Ruben Madol Arol, the National Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, to discuss a range of issues concerning the Abyei’ Area Legal Administration affairs that needed the intervention of the National government, particularly; the intervention of the National Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

In the lengthy meeting, H.E. Amb. Dr. Chol Deng Alak, the Chief Administrator briefed the National Minister on the status of the Legal Administration Institutions in the Abyei Area. Furthermore, the Chief Administrator, reported to the Minister the issue of lack of Legal Administrators and Public prosecutors attorneys.

The Chief Administrator further appealed to the National Minister to support the government of Abyei Special Administrative Area by sending more attorney Generals to the area in order to help in solving some pending criminals cases.

Moreover, H.E. the Chief Administrator, highlighted again the case of the assassination of the former Deputy Chief Administrator, late Brig. Gen. Noon Deng Nyok, and late Hon. Mayot Kunit Miyen, former Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Public Utilities besides the attempted assassination of the current Minister of Local government and Law Enforcement Agencies Hon. Abionweng Majith Diing and Hon. Ayuel Kiir Chol, the current Commissioner of Rum-Amer County.

The Chief Administrator emphasised on the needs for the National Ministry of Justice and Constitutional affairs to take concrete actions against the criminals who assassinated the former Deputy Chief Administrator and former Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Public Utilities as well as against those who attempted to assassinate the Minister of Local government and Commissioner of Rum-Amer County.

On his part, Hon. Justice. Ruben Madol Arol, the National Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs assured the Chief Administrator of his concerns about the situation in the Abyei Area and promised to direct and send three (3) public prosecutors as soon as possible to deal with legal cases that need their intervention.

Moreover, the National Minister renewed his committment to follow up on the issues of assassinations in the Abyei Area and promised to study and table those cases to the Cabinet meeting to deliberate on them and decide on how to take action and bring the perpetrators to justice.

In conclusion, the Chief Administrator H.E. Amb. Dr. Chol Deng Alak, thanked the National Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs for his positive reactions and concerns.
